New national minimum wage rates apply from 1st October 2014.

The National Minimum Wage applies to all employees and workers in the UK and was first introduced in 1999 when the rate was £3.60 per hour for adults and £3 for young workers.

The rate is reviewed each October and will increase again from 1st October 2014. From then the new rates will be:

 

Employees aged 21 and over 18 to 20 Under 18 Apprentice
From October 2013 £6.50 £5.13 £3.79 £2.73
Current rate £6.31 £5.03 £3.72 £2.68
