Welcome to February’s HR and employment law update from myHRdept.
To watch this briefing in video format please click on the video image above.
In case you missed it in January, this year myHRdept will bring you updates in the following ways:
- Monthly email containing a video update from our team + links to various blogs and resources (this will be sent towards the middle of the month and repeated later in the month. The video is also available in the Client area – see below).
- Posts on myHRdept’s LinkedIn page (https://www.linkedin.com/company/myhrdept-co-uk) and my own LinkedIn page (https://www.linkedin.com/in/billlarke) – if you’re not following these already please do!
- Posts on myHRdept’s twitter (https://twitter.com/myhrdept)
I’d also like to remind you about the client area, accessed from the homepage of myHRdept – through the red login button on the top right of the page:
The client area contains current and past updates, and a range of video resources exclusively for your use – these videos can be used for training and inducting staff, educating managers, conducting due diligence training etc. If you haven’t got your password to the member’s area, please let us know and we’ll send you a link to set one up.
On the subject of training, we are running a comprehensive programme of training events in 2023, (you can see all of our planned courses here) and myHRdept clients can use available support hours to redeem against training AND we’re offering a Training Needs Analysis (to create a training plan for your organisation) for 50% of the normal support hours…for more details please click here.
If you need a bespoke training solution, we can do that too – contact our Head of L&D Amy: email@example.com
Clients the length and breadth of the country are reporting their recruitment woes. The UK is in full employment, and that means competing for every available candidate. About 70% of vacancies we fill for clients are passive candidates, and a well managed approach to recruitment headhunting is still producing results, though harder than it was. For more about our recruitment services please see our recruitment pages by clicking here.
Can you fire someone who submits serial grievances? myHRdept’s ER Advisor Elana covers the case exclusively in our video briefing (open the video above).
There’s been a massive focus in the press, most recently the BBC broke allegations about a toxic sexually charged culture at McDonalds. Our article looks at banter in the workplace and gives practical tips on ensuring that workplace banter doesn’t spill over into harassment, click here for more.
HR services – HR Compliance Audits
When did you last check your personnel files? Fines for employing illegal workers can be mitigated if you’ve conducted reasonable checks – our audits can also spot missing contracts, expression of wish forms etc. If you haven’t audited your personnel files in a while, why not use a site visit for the purpose? It’s a good use of support hours and inclusive meetings too – see HR Officer Gina’s description of the process exclusively in our video briefing.
April changes including minimum wage
Big increases this year, our article brings you the latest and you can see it by clicking here.
Entrepreneur of the month
Each month we’re featuring a profile of a myHRdept entrepreneur, to gain a fascinating insight into what motivates them, the challenges they’ve faced and their top tips for others planning their own venture. This month’s profile featured Accurise’s CEO Rob Howard. Accurise have had zero percent turnover in staff and clients in the 3 years since incorporation – to find out how, see the blog here.
We’ll circulate our next briefing in March, but please keep an eye on our LinkedIn and Twitter feeds in the meantime.
