Overview

myhrdept.co.uk is more than simply a set of documents available on line.  The site has been designed to act as your knowledge bank and personnel system, allowing you to store employee details on-line, quickly produce single and multiple documents and build a comprehensive policy & procedure pack for your business.  The site also offers annual subscription holders a comprehensive searchable FAQ section which includes the most common questions we have been asked by employers since we set up the first version of myhrdept.co.uk towards the end of 2002.  Add to this our complimentary e-mail advice and guidance service for members and you can see that we really are a total support service for employers who do not have their own HR advisors. 

The document builder

We offer a range of guides, policies, procedures, a staff handbook, contracts of employment, letters, forms etc.  Most customisable documents are produced through our unique document generator.  The generator takes you through the process of completing the final document question by question, giving you important information about each question as you go through.  To save you time (this feature for annual subscription holders only) you need only do this once for complex documents containing common information, for example a contract of employment.  This differs from the majority of our competitors, who simply supply Word documents for you to edit to your requirements.  This approach could be dangerous for you and is, we believe, extremely poor practice on behalf of the HR industry.  Without a solid grounding in employment law you may delete or overtype an important phrase, or add something that may not be legal.  Our generator will help you avoid doing this since all of the phrases and clauses contained are based on our experience and knowledge, and we only allow you to edit information where it is safe to do so.  Most of our customers find the flexibility from our documents to be sufficient, but where you think you need to write a very specific clause for your business, we do offer to check this for you for a small additional fee. 

The personnel database

myhrdept.co.uk allows annual subscription holders to store information about each employee in their own personnel database area. This allows for easy retrieval of information, and quick gereration of letters, contracts etc, since the employee's basic details are already entered within the system.  Customers are also able to gererate multiple letters, for example a salary review letter to all existing employees, or an acknowledgement of a job application from external applicants.  Customers can choose a subscription type depending on the number of employees they expect to have in the coming year.

The recruitment interview builder

This important feature helps customers build competence based interview questions to ask all applicants for a job vacancy.  Using this and the accompanying guide, customers can help themselves avoid asking potentially discriminatory questions.  A discriminatory approach could give rise to a tribunal application if the alleged discrimination is on grounds of sex, race, disability or age.  The normal 1 year employment requirement for tribunals does not apply if discrimination is claimed on one of these grounds, so even a disgruntled job applicant could bring a claim.  In addition to helping select the right questions, this simple tool will help our customers to demonstrate that they followed a fair and objective process and will help them focus on selecting people with the right skills for the job without being distracted by other potential discriminatory personal aspects.  

The quiz

Although fun, the quiz has a serious purpose - to help customers test their knowledge on key aspects of employment law.  Regularly updated and categorised the quiz will reveal areas of knowledge weakness, and customers can obtain the relevant guide or policy from myhrdept.co.uk to help fill that knowledge gap.  Our guides are written in summary form, and an hours bedtime reading may just save a lot of problems later!  The quiz is also a good tool for helping new managers & supervisors understand their obligations under employment law.
