    Qualifying employees who are adopting a child have the right to leave, pay and employment protection. This policy clearly defines employee rights, and both employer and employee obligations.

    This policy explains the circumstances in which an employee has the right to request a flexible working arrangement (ie for the care of a child or an adult in the employee's care). Whilst this is only a right to REQUEST and employers are not obliged to agree, they are legally obliged to follow a specific procedure when considering the request. (This policy has been updated to reflect that with effect from April 2009 parents of a non disable child up to the age of 16 yrs may apply to work flexibly.)
